Honored to know you Dr Jerry. Incredible! I would assume that like me, you have a respect, bordering on reverence, for what those pioneers put up with to do what we take for granted.

I've always loved the old timers - they guys that show up to meetings in suits, no matter what.

I was at a district meeting in Springfield just after starting practice, and asked one of the docs I had met how old "AJ" was because he looked really old to me. This doc told me, 'I'm not sure, but we practice in the same town, and he was here 25 years before me --- and I've been in practice 50 years.' Both passed away shortly after that.

I miss the old timers.

I grew up in Davenport Iowa, and loved going to Palmer College to get adjusted by the students. They charged one dollar, so I did it weekly. When I was a child - seventy years ago - I had a slight curvature which caused me to wear out one shoe faster than the other one. A series of adjustments over several weeks corrected it, and also cured my chronic constipation.

Nice. I promise that every chiro that's been around as long as I have has seen similar phenomenon more times than can count.

Saw that you went to Logan, I graduated in 1985. Don’t know if Dr Bea Hagen was there, she was the president of Logan at that time( affectionately known as Aunt Bea!) but she and her husband( also a DC practiced in upstate New York( I think 🤔) but they were both arrested for practicing without a license. Some of those “old timers” were very dedicated and fought for their beliefs.

Great article, thanks for sharing and doing all the research 🧐. Keep up the great work and healing!

D.C. for 45 years, I knew the last Chiropractor In Louisiana to go to jail for "practicing medicine," without a license, for infraction prior to being licensed in 1975.

A basic tenet of Hinduism is the concept of Kundalini-Serpent energy. This energy is believed to lie dormant at the base of the spine, and can be awakened by techniques such as yoga. It then becomes free to ascend the spine through the "chakras" and exit the uppermost Chakra at the crown of the head. Each Chakra is believed to influence various physical aspects of the body. Any impedance to this flow of Kundalini-Serpent energy up the spine must be diagnosed and eliminated. Various cultures have given various names to this metaphysical force, kundali being only one of them. The existence of this force-energy is not something that can proven by means of the scientific method. It is at its root, a spiritual concept. Chiropractry is an attempt to meld metaphysical concepts into the Western science-based paradigm.
